Pregnant woman attacked in shocking circumstances.

A pregnant woman has been ambushed, attacked and her baby cut from her womb in an horrific case in the US.

The young mother-to-be was answering an ad on Craigslist for baby goods.  With just two months to go before the birth of her baby the 26-year old pregnant woman arrived at a home in Colorado to look at some baby clothes advertised by another mother.

There the unthinkable happened. She was attacked, beaten and stabbed –  and shockingly her baby was cut from her womb by her attacker.

The victim was seven months pregnant.

The woman was left on the floor of the home screaming for help – while her alleged attacker drove to hospital with her husband claiming to have suffered a miscarriage.

Left alone in the home the 26-year old victim called police for help.

“She cut me, I’m pregnant” the victim told emergency dispatches.

In an audio recording of the call the victim says that her attacker stabbed her in the stomach with a knife and a broken glass as she was getting ready to leave the house.

Police have issued a statement saying “Officers arrived on scene and could hear a female calling for help inside the home. Officers entered the home and located a female who had been beaten and stabbed in the stomach. It was later learned, the female was pregnant and her baby had been removed. The victim was transported to the Longmont United Hospital where she underwent surgery and is expected to recover.”

Sadly her baby did not survive.

Police then arrested 34-year-old Dynel Catrece Lane over the attack.

A former nurse’s aide Lane was arrested on suspicion of three felonies — attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault and child abuse knowingly/recklessly resulting in death.

According to The Washington Post due to the complicated nature of Colorado’s abortion laws, she may not be actually charged with murder over the baby’s death.

“Issues involving an unborn child are complicated under Colorado law,” Boulder County District Attorney Stan Garnet. “In most circumstances, if a child was not actually born alive, then homicide charges are not possible.”

Lane’s son died in 2002. She has two other children.

Local news channels report that Dynel Lane  was registered on a pregnancy website and online baby registry claiming she was due to give birth on November 14 2014. Her Facebook shows friends congratulating her on her pregnancy. It is reported that she was hoping for a son. Neighbours have said they do not know what happened to that pregnancy.

ABC News reports that Lane lost a child in July 2002 – a 19-month-old boy, named Michael Alexander Cruz, died after he drowned.  An online obituary posted by the family reads, “He loved playing with his sisters, cousins and friends.”

Lane has two other children – two girls.

Longmont Police Cmdr. Jeff Satur told The Washington Post that investigators have a pretty good idea of why the attack took place. He said “it would be something everybody would think.”

Lane will face court again in 48 hours. The victim is recovering from surgery in hospital.
