Trending: Crotch-split dresses

Celebrities wearing dresses with thigh-high splits on the red carpet certainly isn’t a new trend, but lately we’ve been noticing that the splits have been getting higher – ending at the crotch rather than somewhere mid-thigh.

While researching this trend (take my advice and do NOT google crotch splits), I became aware that the opportunities to wear a thigh-high split dress in real life are somewhat limited. I don’t know about you but I don’t attend many red carpet events and while I like experimenting with fashion, in order to wear a dress cut that high, it would require a waxing appointment, a tanning appointment and a spin class – or 20.

But if you are keen to flash your upper thigh, the key in pulling off this trend is all in the stance – as made evident by Angelina Jolie at the 2012 Oscars. Her awkward right leg drew a lot more attention than the Versace dress that was responsible for the pose.

Take a look through the gallery for the overwhelming consensus that to wear a thigh-high split dress, the pose is all about a hand on the hip, a slight head tilt and a facial expression that doesn’t belie how terrified you are of a wardrobe malfunction that will show off your undies (or lack of).

So what’s your verdict on this one? Likes or yikes?
