Fashion designer Tom Ford, 52, has secretly married his partner of 27 years, 65-year-old Richard Buckley.
Tom, who first gained international fame for his turnaround of Gucci, casually let slip with the long-awaited news in at the Regent Street Apple store opening in London last night.
“I lost so many friends in college – I would say more than half of my closest friends. Richard… had also gone through something also quite tough in his life,” Tom said in conversation with UK editor and playwright Kinvara Balfour.
“We are now married which is nice. I know that was just made legal in the UK which is great; we were married in the states,” he said.
The loved-up pair — who welcomed their first son, Alexander ‘Jack’ John Buckley Ford, in 2012 — met at a fashion show back in the ’80s, when Buckley was editor-in-chief of Vogue Hommes International.
Tom has told website WWD he was instantly attracted to Richard.
“I went to a fashion show and this silver-haired guy was staring at me with these piercing water-blue eyes,” he said.
“It scared me because I absolutely saw and knew my entire future.”
Tom directed his first film, A Single Man starring Colin Firth, in 2009 and posed on the cover of Vanity Fair with a nude Scarlett Johansson and Keira Knightley in 2006.
The designer’s name was further popularised by the Jay Z 2013 track “Tom Ford,” in which the rapper declares “I don’t pop Molly, I rock Tom Ford.”
