This is not a drill: Agents Mulder and Scully are coming back.

The sound you can hear is the sound of a million fans rejoicing.

In news that is completely out of this world, 90s tv phenomenon The X-Files, and stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, are set to make a big, extra-terrestrial return to our screens.

Intense staring and slight pouts are necessary for the remake.

The series that ran from 1993 to 2002 and spawned two movies, is in talks to get a “reboot”, which tends to mean a remake of the original series rather than a third movie.

These co-stars hated each other in real life.

A chairman for Twentieth Century Fox, the network that owns the show, confirmed that negotiations around a reboot were happening, and the original cast are on board. Both Duchovny and Anderson are apparently both keen to reinvent the roles that made them household names.

Model poses and soft wavy hair will most definitely feature.

There’s no word on what the new series will be about, but it’s confirmed that Duchovny, Anderson and series creator Chris Carter are already in.

The 8 stages of losing your favourite TV show.

There’s always the risk with reboots, spin-offs and movies that they will be disappointing and end up tainting the franchise (Sex and the City 2, anyone?). We want to believe this isn’t going to happen with the X-Files.
