Microsoft Research has tested a bra with sensor-pads to measure mood.
Sure, you know you feel full after gorging on all those holiday bikkies, chugging down that eggnog and hitting the cocktail party buffet table for the second (OK, OK, third) time in an hour.
But thanks to tunics, leggings, elastic waistbands and other gut-disguising styles, it’s easy to just keep eating and eating this time of year.
If only there was a bra that would tell us to back away from the party pies.
Apparently, Santa, or at least Father Microsoft, has heard our pleas. Discovery News reports Microsoft Research has come up with a bra with technology meant to stop you from comfort eating.
“It’s mostly women who are emotional overeaters, and it turns out that a bra is perfect for measuring EKG (electrocardiogram),” Microsoft’s Mary Czerwinski tells the website. “We tried to do the same thing for men’s underwear but it was too far away (from the heart).”
(Insert your own joke here.)
According to Discovery News, the bra, which includes sensor pads, a microprocessor and a 3.7-volt battery, can measure a slew of mood-signaling channels, as well as heart rate and respiration. That info, the website adds, is then transmitted to an app on your smartphone.
The hitch? The bra batteries died around the four-hour mark. We think you can imagine how trying to recharge them in the middle of your company Christmas party might be a little awkward.
So, Discovery adds, Czerwinski is on the hunt for other, less complicated areas of the body to help monitor moods. In the meantime, we hope they don’t burn the whole bra-sensing idea just yet. We have a lot of eggnog to get through before New Year’s.
