Female staff member accused of inappropriate relationships with boys at a prestigious NSW school.

The investigation is continuing.

A female staff member of a prestigious NSW school accused of having inappropriate relationships with a number of students has been suspended.

Police are investigating a non-teaching staff member of The Armidale School, a former all-boys Anglican boarding and day school in New England, Fairfax Media reports.

The private school – which charges fees of up to $27,000 per year – released a statement about the incident yesterday.

“The Armidale School was made aware of some allegations on September 4 concerning a female member of our non-teaching staff,” it read.

“We immediately informed the relevant authorities, and suspended the staff member concerned while the matter can be fully investigated.

“All parties with a direct interest in the allegations have been notified. The situation as it stands is that we are waiting for local area command to begin an investigation.”

The school, aware of the allegations from September 4, didn’t inform parents until the new school term began in October.

Headmaster Murray Guest, who was away when the allegations arose, wrote to parents earlier this month to address rumours, Fairfax Media reports.

“I’m writing in response to speculation in our community about a current situation we are working to resolve,” he wrote.

“We immediately informed the relevant authorities, and suspended the staff member concerned while the matter can be fully investigated.”

“While we value open lines of communication between parents, students and [The Armidale School], in this instance confidentiality is important and we value your support.”

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
