Terri Irwin and Russell Crowe's sweet Twitter friendship is fuelling some interesting gossip.

Here’s one you weren’t expecting: The celeb rumour mill is being whipped into overdrive that Terri Irwin and Russell Crowe are an item.

Yep! If you belive the glossy mags, Australia Zoo owner Terri Irwin has been on the receiving end of Crowe’s affections for quite some time now. While the mags claim the pair have kept their lovin’ top secret so far, New Idea says us it’ll be no time before they come out and announce it from the social media rooftops.

"Russ and Terri are slowly starting to take their romance public, posting affectionate comments on each other’s social media accounts," the publication said yesterday, adding quotes from "insiders" who say the two Aussies "can't fight their love any longer".

"The truth is, they're both at similar stages of their lives and have so much in common - kids, looking for love, big careers. It was only a matter of time before they fell in love," the mysterious *top secret* source said.

But if you ask the team at Australia Zoo, the rumours are nothing but gossip, and the tweets are just part of the pair's friendship.

"She'll be flattered!" a spokesperson told the Daily Mail. "Russell Crowe is a long-time friend of the Irwin family and has been for many years, [but] the report that Terri and Russell are romantically linked is simply untrue."

It turns out Terri is no stranger to whispers of Hollywood romance - just last year her photo landed in tabloids aside claims she was in love with Crocodile Dundee actor, Paul Hogan.

So it looks like this one's just speculation, but who knows, in Hollywood anything is possible.
