TBL: Families' Kayla Hailwood is grieving her boyfriend, who died just before filming began.

She’s stronger than most.

One of this season’s contestants on The Biggest Loser (now known as TBL: Families) is doing it tougher than the others.

Going on television and having your weight, eating habits and insecurities aired in front of the nation takes guts — or desperation — but to do it while trying to cope with a very new grief is unimaginable.

That’s what Kayla Hailwood, 24, is doing every day, as she exercises and competes with her family on the show.

Kayla Hailwood.

She revealed to her trainer Tiffiny Hall that she “doesn’t feel anything anymore” after her boyfriend of five years, Greg Mort, 27, died in a car accident just a few months before filming for the show began.

Hailwood learned of Mort’s death the day after she and her family had attended the TBL auditions.

“I don’t know who I am anymore. I don’t know how to be happy,” she said.

“We were so happy, the happiest I’ve ever been in my life and now I just, I feel like I’m just going through the motions without him.”

She and her mother had taken her for a drive to take her mind off the fact that Mort wasn’t answering her phone calls. They had almost driven to the accident site when their car was turned around by emergency crews.

Hailwood’s sister says Greg Mort was planning to propose to Kayla at Christmas.

It wasn’t until 2am the following morning that she received a call from Mort’s best friend informing her that he had died.

“I remember screaming and oh, I was inconsolable,” she said.

Hailwood’s sisters were visibly emotional as they stoically worked out in the background as she told her story.

“He was the craziest bloke in history, but he loved her more than life itself,” older sister Sam told Hall. “She was the love of his life, he was planning to propose at Christmas, and Kayla would have said yes.”
