PSA: That $49 Target pleated midi skirt is back in a brand new (and better) colour.

PSA: The Target skirt is back.

You know, that $49 navy pleated midi skirt you saw all over you Instagram feed in May.

If you’re not acquainted, the Target Preview Pleated Midi Skirt (which is still available in limited sizes) features an A-line cinched waist and baby pink and white geometric blocking along the hemline that looked way more expensive than its bargain price tag. Aussie fashion influencers shared the skirt all over the internets when it first dropped three months ago.

Head to toe $127 outfit from @targetaus inc shoes and necklace. Let’s be real though – I haven’t been to Target in such a long time to look at clothes. Always left feeling let down with the lack of plus size options. They have good basic corporate black pants etc but nothing fun like there is in the main stream section…and I know so many of you curve babes can relate. It can leave you feeling a bit down. It’s can be tough shopping in Aus being over a size 18. Was pleasantly surprised to put together a whole outfit for $127. The skirt is fab! I’m wearing the size 18 and I sized down because the waist is elastic. If you are a size 24-26 I reckon this would fit you. The top is a 20 and slightly tight across my bust. I would have loved to paired it with a white jumper but couldn’t find one in the store in plus sizes. . . Totally influenced after seeing it on @iheartbargains so knew I had to go find myself this swishy skirt ???? . . If you buy this skirt tag me in your pics so I can check you out. In a non creepo way ????

Now, Target have released another version of the much-loved skirt in a new (and in our opinion, better) colour. Black.

As spotted by Trash To Treasured‘s Tina Abeysekara, the Preview Pleated Midi Skirt in Black/Pink has all the great design features of the original, but with the added versatility of black clothing items.

Tina told Mamamia, “The black and pink combo makes it easy to take this skirt from desk to dinner and though to the weekend, and the soft fabric means the pleats drape flatteringly (no added bulk!). The elastic waistband allows you to wear this high waisted (great to create the illusion of height!), or to accommodate a growing bump.”

There are many, many things to love about this skirt, like:

  • You can wear the black base colour with anything, and it's easier to style for a corporate workplace.
  • A-line pleated skirts are flattering for those who want to either accentuate a small waist, or create the illusion of a waist by drawing the eye inward.
  • The pleats add a sophisticated texture, making the fabric look more luxurious than it is.
  • Having the contrasting colour at the bottom lifts the skirt from being just another black pleated skirt.
  • At under $50, the price tag is very lovely.

You can also dress this skirt up or down by:

  • Adding a plain t-shirt, denim jacket and white sneakers for the weekend.
  • Tucking in a knit jumper or turtle neck long-sleeve top when it's chilly.
  • Pairing with a black blazer and heels for a corporate look.
  • Chucking on strappy heels and a nice top for dinner or drinks.

The idea is to stock your wardrobe with elegant, classic pieces that walk the tightrope between professional and fashionable, and can take you from work to anywhere but work.

Over the last few months, Target have impressed us with their Target Preview Trench Coat (read our review here), the Target Preview Asymmetrical Midi Dress, $59 (read more here), and the $25 pale blue V-Neck Knitted Sweater Mamamia's Holly Wainwright's been in all winter.

Back to the skirt. It's $49 and will 100 per cent be yanked off shelves just as quickly as the navy
