Uncovered: the 'rape dungeon' where a 38-year-old Swedish doctor planned to hold his victims for years.

Swedish authorities have arrested a 38-year-old doctor who allegedly kidnapped and held a woman in a “rape dungeon” because he “wanted a girlfriend”.

The case has similarities chillingly like that of Austrian Josef Fritzl’s underground dungeon, where he kept his daughter, Elizabeth captive in an underground dungeon for 24-years.

The Swedish doctor, who has not been named, reportedly intended to keep his victim captive for “several years” in the purpose-built bunker that it is believed he began constructing more than five years ago.

Five years planning his crime, identifying his victim, building his rape dungeon complete with a bedroom, toilet and kitchen.

The dungeon had 30cm walls so that his victims could not be heard and a fully covered courtyard where a person could go outside – without being seen by any of the neighbours.

Images released by police show the purpose-built bunker included a double bed, a fridge stocked with food, a sink and a toilet, they show scattered items around the bunker of condoms, syringes and strange masks for disguise.

Chief prosecutor Peter Claeson said: “We believe his intention has been to keep the woman locked up for several years.

The case has similarities chillingly like that of Josef Fritzl’s underground dungeon.

“We also suspect him of planning this for years. Among other things, he has built the bunker to bring one or more victims.”

It is believed that when they met up the doctor fed her chocolate-dipped strawberries, laced with Rohypnol.

Police have released images of the strawberries with a black marking on the leaves, so that the doctor knew which ones were safe for him to eat on their date and which ones would render his victim powerless.

Aftonbladet reports that the man raped the woman when she passed out and transported her in a wheelchair to his car. He then disguised himself with grotesque masks that he had bought for the long journey ahead.

He drove the woman 560km to a house close to Kristianstad, south Sweden. There he transported her to his dungeon and for a week the doctor kept the woman locked up and continually raped and sexually abused her.

During the week police claim the doctor took blood and other samples from the woman and tested them for any traces of sexually transmitted diseases.

Local media reports that the man forced the woman to take contraceptive pills so he could have unprotected sex with her.

After six days the doctor’s plan came unhitched when he drove back to the woman’s home in Stockholm to gather some of her belongings and found that police had been investigating her disappearance and he found notes from her loved ones concerned about where she was.

Prosecutors say the woman was forced by the man to tell police she was unharmed and that she hadn’t gone missing, but as she told her story police became suspicious and took her to one side where she told them she had been kidnapped and raped.

The doctor admitted drugging, kidnapping and holding the woman against her will. He denied he raped her.

Close friends of the doctor have spoken about him to the Swedish media describing him as “socially awkward” and “too sharp, intellectually, for his own good.”

“In the beginning, when this got out, you kind of thought that “maybe it’s not so serious, maybe it’s blown out of proportion”, but now that he’s been charged its become clear how f***ing sick this is. It’s like a film,” a friend told Kristianstadsbladet.

The 38-year-old man has been charged with kidnapping, drugging and raping the victim.

His lawyer has told media that he is “remorseful.” She said he has admitted he just wanted a girlfriend, someone to be his partner and to live with him.

The trial against the 38-year-old doctor is expected to start in the Stockholm District Court on 25 January.
