Your sweaty gym face is having a fashion moment

Thought pigs would fly before your post-gym look was on trend? Well start looking to the skies, my friends, because exercise chic is in (and I’m not talking about wearing your yoga pants all day and pretending you may have stepped foot near a treadmill).

A key makeup trend emerging on the runways of late is the sweaty, post-workout glow.

That’s right, top designers have incorporated the ‘lightly perspired’ look into their latest shows, and gosh all mighty, somehow it works.

During their New York Fashion Week shows, Alexander Wang, Creatures of the Wind and Prabal Gurung all adopted a mixture of light contouring, with a slight sheen and post-gym practical hair. Basically the look is Gym You, only a little more polished.

Take a look here:

This is one makeup trend I can get behind, because it’s achievable; think clean skin with a breeze of perspiration. (Don’t go for Bikram Yoga Face just yet- its about a misted glow, not a squashed tomato).

To achieve the look at the Creatures of the Wind show, NARS lipstick in Ligueria was used on the cheeks to give the right glisten – NARS Belle De Jour will also work. The texture and formula sit on the skin for a faux “I just pumped iron” look.

Paul Hanlon, hair stylist on the Prabal Gurung runway drew his inspiration from women walking down the street on their way back from the gym. No joke. You know that tightly pulled back pony that gets slightly matted after spin class? That’s the look we’re talking about here.

Gym Face: like this, just a bit polished

This all sounds strange, I know. But it works, and best of all, it's something we can all achieve pretty easily. After pulling your hair into a low, gym-appropriate pony tail, you can create the lightly messed up look by applying some texturising mousse to the mid lengths and ends and using your fingers to rub the hair together. No step class required.

To make the look more polished and sophisticated, Alexander Wang teamed the post-workout glow with a solid gold eyelid. The hair was similar, but in order to keep the look a little more wearable, hair stylist Guido Palau pulled the girls' hair into a super tight low pony, and applied Redken Diamond Oil High Shine Airy Mist to give a healthy post workout sheen.

So there you go, everyone thought you needed to commit to an exercise regimen to see gradual results. But now? One workout = runway ready (with a little help!)

Would you ever try this look in public?
