My 1st daughter was stillborn at 41 weeks. She died during labor after a perfect trxt book pregnancy. This video brought tears as everything said is so true. And I'm still astounded at how often it happens.
I commend these individuals on sharing their stories and understand their grief having lost a son at the end of my second trimester. It was a horrifying experience, especially facing the prospect of having to raise a severely developmentally disabled child (if he survived the labour process) or terminating his life at that point. My close friends and family acknowledge the day we lost my 'son' which has helped significantly with the healing.
While there is no point in raising hysteria levels in expectant mothers I think it is critical that medics better-explain the risks in pregnancy on a more consistent basis. I am happy to say that I am now expecting my third child (i have since had another beautiful daughter) and make sure that when people around me get too excited, i gently remind them that passing your 12-week mark DOES NOT put you in a safe zone - there are risks all the way through the process.
