This is how Sonia Kruger asked her friend for a baby.

Sonia Kruger tells her story of true friendship.

TV presenter Sonia Kruger, 49, recently shared wonderful news of her pregnancy, made possible through a successful IVF treatment after a dear friend donated one of her eggs.

And the story of how Sonia’s friend agreed to help is simply beautiful.

“I happened to be talking to a girlfriend of mine and she knew what I’d been through. As a bit of a joke I said, ‘This would all be solved if you gave me one of your eggs.’ And you know what? She came back and said, ‘OK’ without even thinking twice,” Sonia told Woman’s Day.

After suffering a miscarriage when she conceived naturally with her partner Craig McPherson, 52, in 2011, Sonia attempted IVF in 2012 with her own eggs, which was sadly unsuccessful.

But now Sonia says she is “filled with this amazing excitement” after falling pregnant with a baby girl thanks to the support of her friend.

“It’s hard to explain the relief when you see the ultrasound and you see or hear the heartbeat. It’s as if someone has lifted a huge weight off you and you relax for a second but then my mind starts playing tricks on me,” Sonia said.

“I didn’t plan to have a baby this late in life, but I’ve always been a late bloomer and being in such a wonderful relationship made it feel right. Craig says he’s good at putting a baby to sleep. I’m more worried how (her much loved Staffie) Fergie will adapt,” Sonia went on to say.

Sonia reveals that she has now put on 5kg and has craving for cookies-and-cream ice-cream and hot chips, at 17-weeks of pregnancy.
