These before and after war pictures were taken just seven months apart.

How much can a person change over seven months? And how much would you be able to see these changes?

The answer to both these questions is: a lot.

Photographer Lalage Snow’s powerful series of photographs of soldiers before, during and after war is a testament to that fact. There is something so haunting about the eyes of the soldiers; and something so haggard in their faces, once their time serving was over.

The triptychs, titled We Are The Not Dead, show British soldiers before and after their time in Afghanistan – which took place over a period of only seven months.

The photos tell the story of a physical journey – and an emotional one.
