7 snack ideas to drool over. 3.30-itis, be gone.

Snack time is pretty much my favourite part of the day.

But unfortunately, we can’t spent the entire day snacking – so our daily snacks have to be a bit special.

Here’s a list of my all-time favourite snacks, guaranteed to get you through the day – whether it be at work, at home or at school.

But just a warning – they are going to make you hungry…

1. Yoghurt jars.

You haven’t heard of yoghurt jar snacks yet? Where have you been? Originally a breakfast idea, yoghurt jar creations have become one of my favourite snacks for morning or afternoon.

Simply buy your favourite healthy yoghurt, some diced or sliced nuts, flaxseeds, chia seeds and frozen berries. Take a clean jar and start with a yoghurt layer, then fruit, then nuts, then seeds and continue until the jar is full of scrumptious layers. Too easy.

2. Choc-dipped fruit.

Choose your favourite fruits such as strawberries, bananas and pineapple chunks and dip them in good quality dark chocolate (just think of the antioxidants) and enjoy, guilt free.

You can melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds, stir and then pp it in for another 30 seconds. Wash and dry the fruit with a paper towel. Dip and lay on baking paper and sit in the fridge for 15 minutes then eat up.

3. Cheese plates.

Cheese platters are my favourite part of any get together. I remember eating the leftovers for a few days after a big family get together at my house and then when I ran out of delicious cheeses, I wondered, why can’t I eat fancy cheeses every day?

I normally use a bit of cheese and chive, brie and creamy Laughing Cow cheese wedges served up on a little plate with either crackers or fruit. It brings a little bit of fancy into the day.

4. Muesli cookies.

My friend who is a nutritionist always says that if you are going to eat junk food, make it yourself. That way you know what has gone into it.

So I use a basic biscuit recipe (there are heaps online) and add healthy ingredients to it such as almond meal, chia, cinnamon powder, a little dried fruit or if I don’t have all the ingredients, I normally pour some of my favourite muesli into the batter. Genius.

5. Apple and peanut butter.

I always forget about apple and peanut butter as a snack. I used to eat it all the time when I was little and now lots of foodies eat this as a snack because it is pretty healthy.

Green apples are best and I love crunchy peanut butter, although if you use smooth, I promise not to judge you (too much).

7. Microwave mug cake.

In a coffee mug break an egg, add one tablespoon of brown sugar, 30 grams of melted butter, then add ¼ cup flour, one teaspoon of vanilla essence and four blocks of dark chocolate. Stir, stir, stir and then microwave for 20-30 seconds. It’s so incredibly easy and tastes amazing.

8. Cheese and ham on corn thins.

Look, it’s so easy. But nothing beats some smooth Laughing Cow cheese spread on corn thins and topped with ham. It’s surprisingly filling and satisfying and I’ll never get sick of it.

Hungry yet? Thought so.
