"I was training and I missed it." For new mum Serena Williams, Wimbledon comes at a price.

For many working parents around the world, the feeling of missing milestone moments can feel pretty terrible, and Serena Williams is no exception.

In a tweet yesterday, Serena Williams shared that when she was training for Wimbledon her 10-month-old daughter, Alexis Olympia, took her first steps.

“She took her first steps… I was training and missed it,” she wrote in the tweet.

“I cried,” she added.

Luckily, the 36-year-old tennis player’s fans offered endless support to the new mum.

“She missed you winning 23 grand slam titles but will still know you’re the best tennis player of all time. You’ll have thousands of magic moments with her don’t worry!” wrote Twitter user Ryan Tahmassebi.

“My motherhood rule: the first you see is the first time it happened FULL STOP!” suggested Twitter user miller_jcm.

Serena Williams is currently competing for her 24th major title and won her third round match against French player Kristina Mladenovic at Wimbledon on Friday.

Yesterday the tennis champion proved that she is nailing having two jobs (as a professional tennis legend and a full-time mum), when she posted a string of videos of her pre-match ritual with her daughter.

In a series of SnapChat videos the mum-of-one uploaded before taking the court, Olympia was far more concerned with putting things in her mouth than her mum’s upcoming match.

The 2018 Wimbledon Grand Slam is Serena's fourth tennis tournament since giving birth to her first child with her Reddit co-founder husband Alexis Ohanian last September. Most recently, she made it to the fourth round of the 2018 French Open before withdrawing from her match against Maria Sharapova.
