Sarah Michelle Gellar got a bit mixed up with her George Michael tribute.

This morning came the sad news that 2016 had claimed another musical great.

The BBC reports Wham! singer George Michael passed away “peacefully” at his home at the age of 53.

The tributes on social media quickly started pouring in, including from actress Sarah Michelle Gellar.

In a since deleted tweet, she shared her condolences…to the wrong musical George.

“Do you really want to hurt me? I guess you do 2016 #RIPBoyGeorge I was truly one of your biggest fans,” she wrote.

People were quick to correct her that it was in fact George Michael, not fellow British singer Boy George who had passed away.

In less than 20 minutes, the 39 year old had replaced her original tweet with an update.

Michael's publicist confirmed the news earlier today.

"It is with great sadness that we can confirm our beloved son, brother and friend George passed away peacefully at home over the Christmas period," he said in a statement.

"The family would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult and emotional time. There will be no further comment at this stage."
