Nobody's happy with what Samantha Armytage just said.

Oops.

Samantha Armytage says her early morning starts on Sunrise are comparable to forms of torture used at the Guantánamo Bay military prison.

In a tell-all interview with Hamish McLachlan, the 38-year-old breakfast TV presenter revealed her crack-of-dawn mornings have played havoc with her self-esteem.

“Remember I get up at 3.40 every morning — and sleep deprivation is a form of torture they used at Guantánamo Bay, so I can be fragile at times,” Sam said.

The bubbly blonde presenter, who replaced Melissa Doyle as Sunrise co-host in 2013, also compared her and fellow presenter Natalie Barr’s morning routine to what co-host David Koch has to go through.

“It’s a pity that women’s appearance is scrutinised over their ability in society,” she said.

“You realise Nat and I are in make-up for an hour each morning – and Kochie gets to stay in bed for an extra hour? I suppose he has less hair!”

When asked whether she thought Kochie ever got asked about body image, Sam was adamant.

"Never," she said.

"I have wondered when they put this curvy tag on me and incessantly discuss my weight and my body, why the male hosts don’t get the same questions - what their weight might be doing?"

But Sam said when it came to self-esteem and happiness, she has come a long way from when she first started in the industry.

"I would say I’ve definitely become more guarded and tougher and more resilient. I’m not the same person I was a few years ago. I was more open then."

Sam surprised viewers earlier this month when she admitted she has been "tempted" to flash her breasts in public.

Discussing a recent story in which South Australian Karen Davis was charged with disorderly behaviour after allegedly showing her K-cup breasts on Google Street View, Sam defended the woman's actions as "harmless".

"It’s pretty harmless. It'd be pretty tempting though... if you were in a quiet street," she said, laughing.

What do you think of Sam's "Guantanamo Bay" comparison?
