Sam Armytage forced to explain why My Kitchen Rules' Josh awkwardly bailed on their interview.

My Kitchen Rules villain, Josh Meeuwissen, is reported to have left the country just one day after the hit cooking show aired him calling a fellow contestant a ‘slut’.

Sunrise host Sam Armytage said the sudden trip was why he couldn’t join them for an interview on Thursday morning.

“We invited Josh to come on to explain himself but he has left the country — he literally is in Europe,”  she said.

Armytage, 40, went on to reprimand Josh, 25, for using the term against fellow contestant Amy Murr.

“You should never say that to a woman — ever. Under any circumstance,” she said.

Co-host David Koch offered his own take on the situation and how it could have been misconstrued.

“Wow. When you see the grab by yourself you think…. you know you have lighthearted banter with some friends and then it goes too far — but it doesn’t sound like it,” he said.

“It sounds like it just came out of the blue.”

Meeuwissen has spent the past week performing damage control in regards to the comment across media networks.

He called the KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O show to explain his comments on Wednesday morning.

The self-proclaimed "Seafood King" told Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O the show's producers had tried to "blackmail" him into discussing a certain comment he had said.

Kyle then clarified he was talking about calling Murr a 'slut' during a dinner party.

"Oh is this where you call the girl a 'slut'? Is it that one?" Kyle asked.

Meeuwissen confirmed, "Yep, that’s the one".

The 25-year-old said he has since apologised to Murr.

Murr told News Limited this morning she had confronted Meeuwissen for the upsetting comment the following day.

“Josh definitely crossed the line with that comment,” she said. “He didn’t use very good judgment."

“We all know that Josh is a bit of a shi*t-stirrer and likes to get reactions out of people by saying things he probably shouldn’t.”
