Sad news for Ryan Reynolds and his family.

Actor Ryan Reynolds has paid a touching tribute to his father, who passed away this week after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Reynolds, 39, posted a picture on Twitter of his father James holding him as a baby, with the words “RIP Pops. James C. Reynolds. 1941-2015”. He also asked people to donate to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, which raises money for  Parkinson’s disease research.

James Reynolds, who was also known as Jim, had lived with the disease for almost two decades. He was 74.

The Canadian Green Lantern actor spoke about his father’s condition in an interview with the Today show last year alongside fellow actor Michael J. Fox, who was diagnosed with the disease in 1991.

“My father really hasn’t ever said he has Parkinson’s disease…He comes from a pretty prideful generation and he doesn’t really talk about it too much. He’s maybe said it once or twice out loud,” he said. “It kind of galvanised everybody else, to sort of seek resources…And for us, in a strange way, it’s really kind of brought us together.”

Reynolds is married to actress Blake Lively, and they have a 10-month-old daughter, also named James.

Reynolds joined the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2008, and is now on the board of directors.

Our thoughts are with the Reynolds family during this sad time.
