Rihanna's Star Trek Beyond single, “Sledgehammer” just dropped. It's amazing.

Rihanna is cool. She’s most-popular-girl-in-high-school cool, your older cousin when you’re six-years-old cool, I’ll have what she’s having cool. She’s in your face, doesn’t care what you think, amazing artist cool. It’s almost unnatural how cool she is. Alien even.

Being into “nerdy” things has slowly become less taboo over the years, but one particularly nerdy fandom might have just crossed over into full on glam.

Today, RiRi dropped her new single “Sledgehammer” for the Star Trek Beyond soundtrack. Her soaring vocals on this Sia penned ballad are otherworldly. In a post announcing the song on her Instagram, Rihanna wrote “As a Star Trek fan, I am honored to have the theme song for the new @StarTrekMovie!”

This is not the first time Rihanna has brought Star Trek into her world.

Rihanna also recently collaborate with Dior on a line of sunglasses by Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Geordi La Forge, famously played by Levar Burton as the inspiration. She told Women’s Wear Daily, “I’ve always been obsessed with his eyewear, and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together.”

She joins a long list of famous beautiful Hollywood Trekkies.

Actress Angelina Jolie admitted to Jon Stewart that her first crush was on Mr. Spock. “He was so repressed, you just wanted to make him scream.” While Rosario Dawson actually speaks some Klingon. Mila Kunis has attended Star Trek conventions and Olivia Wilde has been a fan since she was a kid.

Rihanna is just the latest celebrity to prove that love of science fiction and of the fandom that accompanies it is not a male only thing. You can be young, beautiful, successful, and all around cool and love a story about a crew going where no man has gone before.

So to answer your question Craig Jenkins, No, you are not the only person alive this Rihanna x Star Trek collaboration appeals to.

Now, how do we get her to be in the next Star Wars movie. I think we’d all love to hear hear take on the “Star Wars Cantina”.
