V8 supercar driver tells everyone in Australia what a 'pussy wagon' is.

But he doesn’t call cars driven by blokes ‘Dick Mobiles’ does he?

V8 Supercars driver David Reynolds has been slammed with a $25,000 fine for referring to an all-female team at the Bathurst 1000 – the first all-female team in 17 years – as the “pussy wagon”.

And he deserves every cent of that fine.

When asked about the Supergirls duo Renee Gracie and Simona de Silvestro – his teammates, his colleagues – during a press conference, 30-year-old Reynolds responded: “Was I aware of the pussy wagon?”

(Chortle, chortle.)

Reynolds continued, changing tack: “Yeah, I think that’s great. Renee and Simone are really good people and really good drivers. I hope they perform well for us.”

He issued a statement after yesterday’s press conference “unreservedly” apologising for his comment, saying “it was intended to be humorous”.

Because you can’t talk about women driving a car without a reference to their genitals, right?

Or, apparently, the fact they get periods… (ewww, periods!)

“During the race we do pads stops, like brake pads, but in their garage apparently it’s the only pads stops with wings,” he commented on radio earlier in the week.

Seriously?

These blatantly sexist comments are far from the ‘jokes’ they are made out to be.

The thinly veiled message behind them is that women, already a minority in the sport (and we use the term ‘sport’ when referring to driving a car lightly), are most definitely not welcome.

Now this is a pussy wagon. Image via Instagram.

Because didn’t y’all know that having a dick is a prerequisite to driving a car? A woman could never drive one of those steel things with wheels, right? I mean, how does one even turn those things on?

V8 Supercars sent a strong message to Reynolds, handing down one of the biggest financial punishments it has issued in recent years and condemning the demeaning comments.

Because those women, who are just trying to get on with their jobs, should not have to put up with sexist jibes like those the ‘larrikin’ driving star spouted – comments that could easily constitute sexual harassment.

Those remarks wouldn’t fly in a corporate office and they certainly shouldn’t be aired in a public forum.

These women are clearly good at their jobs – and men who feel threatened by that shouldn’t belittle them by reducing them to their genitals.
