I agree, and my 3 kids aged 7-10 have simple parties but so do all their friends. Their are no entertainers that can come, most parties are held at the park, someone’s backyard or the pub. I’ve learnt over time that the kids don’t care about the food, so the only thing I make is a packet mix cake and decorate it, cut up some fruits and open a few bags of chips and popcorn. I also don’t do pass the pass parcel as that involves being organised, but we do simple games like musical statue’s. Also one the kids are school age, it’s drop off and pickup, written on the invitation, I don’t want to entertain and cater for parents and siblings as well!
I’m not sure how much longer we can sustain this. We are so tired, we are working so much, and we feel guilt for not working more and guilt for not seeing our family. Mostly people are kind but it’s the abusive ones we remember. We are trying our best so people don’t have too wait too long for care, a test, results or a jab. We are wearing PPE in the heat all day, we are not eating, we can’t drink. We can’t just employ more staff, there aren’t any! But we will get thru this, and look out for each other.
