I was diagnosed when I was almost 15. Then, when I turned 16, the doctors told me and my parents that because I was 16 I no longer had ADHD and so I would not need medication anymore.

When I started taking medication for ADHD my grades went from Cs and Ds to Bs and As.

Then I was told I didn't have it any more and my grades went back to pre medication levels, but, according to the medical professionals in the state government, over 16s don't have ADHD.

Years ago, my wife told me to get tested and the psychiatrist re-tested me and was horrified that I had lived for 25 years without medication and diagnosed me and I go my medication again. My work performance skyrocketed and my home life became much happier.

I was told the same thing by someone after I had mine. I told them I couldn't give a rotting rat's fetid fart about their opinion and haven't spoken to them since. I blocked them on all social media, blocked their emails and SMS and calls. Do what's best for you and keep your opinions about others to yourself.

@mamamia-user-482898552 Agreed. I'm certain that it is a learned skill. I was never played with by either of my parents when I was growing up and I didn't know how to with my kids.

My father worked 60+ hours per week and my mother had too many social functions to attend to spend time with me. I was encouraged to become interested in their interests rather than them spending time with me with my interests.

I have struggled with it with my own kids. Fortunately, my wife has been a great teacher for me though and all I can do is hope that my kids will know how to play with their own when the time comes.

I had to learn how to play with my kids when they were born. My parents were always too busy to play with me when I was growing up and so I never learned how. I'm still not that good at it.

Now do child raising advice non patents give to parents. Or pregnancy advice men or women who have never been pregnant give to pregnant women.
