The first thing we need to recognise is they were not the “cool group” but the “mean girls”…

Was just going to write the same thing. I am an anaesthetist. I qualified in the fasted time possible with no bumps in the road. It took me 14 years. And cost me a lot of money. Plus there are very rigorous selection criteria and two very difficult exams requiring 1000+ hours of study.
You don’t just decide to be one.

I’m Aussie and married to an Aussie and also never once considered changing my name. It was the name I was given by my parents at birth, it’s the name I made my early achievements with and it’s the name that ties me to my family.

I’m still  surprised by people’s reactions to my decision not to chance my name 10 years on. They are often incredibly judgemental “legally you have your husbands name right? You only use your maiden name for work??” And “ what about the kids? Isn’t it weird having a different name to them??”. “Don’t you like your in-laws”
Ummmm no, no, no.

I’m with you.

I’m 40 and “No-Bo” and I actually love my aging face. I honestly do. I look at old photos of myself and marvel at how fresh and young and beautiful I was but I don’t wish I was back there.
I still take care of myself, wear makeup and do my hair but I’m happy to embrace my middle age and all that comes with it.
Radical.

What an interesting read. Sounds like a fascinating life so far but you’re writing like it’s over where my bet is you’ve only just begun!!

I do find it sad/disturbing and worrying for my daughter that you even felt the need  to respond to those comments. You are a beautiful 40 yr old woman who looks exactly as you should. Our world is so altered and filtered these days that people don’t recognise what a normal face looks like.
