Hi Clare, you do make me laugh, but wanted to share my story… I am currently in day 45 of the challenge and personally have found the whole process very valuable, especially in lockdown. Here are a few thoughts that might help you see the value (beyond just the one day you tried).

1. Diet - he clearly states pick a diet that suits you and stick to it. It’s about commitment. He does not say cut food, eat like a mouse… I chose to just stop snacking (fruit is fine), chocolate was becoming a bit of an addiction in lockdown. I eat delicious meals, takeout, have had a few social picnics with friends (now restrictions are easing). I can eat whatever I want 3 meals a day, just not snack in between.
2. Work out 2x a day - one outside - here again he says to pick a workout style that suits you. I get out of bed a little earlier than usual 6 instead of 6.30, walk my dog & add a 15-20 min online class (free with my mobile service) after. In the evening before dinner (before daylight savings) and now after, we go for a walk. It’s been a blessing to get out of the house and it’s started some really good habits. We enjoy the evening, talk about the day, walk to get our groceries and clear the head. Also if there is an opportunity to walk somewhere rather than drive for 45min then I include that as one of my walks. It’s all about choices and thinking a little differently.
3. A gallon of water - I have to admit this is the hardest and the first week I was going to the toilet every five minutes but the body gets used to it and you get used to spreading it throughout the day. Also the bonus… it helps with the snacking and my skin looks great.
4. Read 10 pages of nonfiction - how can this be a negative? I have never read so much and am loving it. Definitely a habit I will maintain.
5. Progress pic - well that takes a second (selfie in front of the mirror - no boyfriend required) and who does not like a before and after right!

Now the no alcohol and cheat meals… this has only helped my mental state through a challenging few months and everyone should be able to stop alcohol for a period of time.
So…  I hope this has given you something to think about. Might have been worth asking someone else what they thought rather than dissing it with your experience of one day. It is really tough, don’t get me wrong. Changing routine and habits (my husband is definitely not doing the no alcohol but he is trying to drink more water and do two efforts of movement. When I mentioned your article to him he said that people don’t like things that are hard and that he was super proud of me for giving it a go. That made the last 45 days even more rewarding ☺️
But, each to their own… you have to do what makes you feel good & bring you joy I say.
Go forth and be healthy & happy!
