My MIL is 98 and in aged care. I relate to many of these situations. Being left in her room for days on end due to constant Covid outbreaks,. There aren't enough staff members to manage many of the contagious patients who also have dementia and are found wandering around thought out the facility. Most of the staff are wonderful, but they are stretched to breaking point, there is a constant turn over of staff which leads to communication errors and breakdowns. I believe they are doing their best and all I have met have been kind & compassionate, but they literally can't be everywhere all the time. At nights, there is sometimes just one nurse on duty per floor, so if my MIL needs the bathroom she tries to take herself as the buzzer is never answered. This has resulted in a broken hip and more recently a head injury to the falls. Again, we are billed for very expensive GP visits which largely are a quick peek around the door. I thought that the system was meant to be overhauled the other year, but I've yet to hear about the status of this.
