1. Air crew refuse to fly a plane after someone wrote the words “bye bye” on it.

Air crew refused to fly a plane after they found the words “Bye bye” written on it, alongside a picture of what appears to be a “devilish” face.

The flight attendants were due to fly on a scheduled trip between San Francisco and Hong Kong on United flight 869 six months ago when they noticed the words on the outer body of the plane.

The 13 crew members were fired for refusing to do their jobs — and now they’re suing to get their jobs back, having filed a complaint today with the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration, news.com.au reports.

A United spokesperson told news.com.au of the incident: “Our flight operations, safety and maintenance teams appropriately investigated and determined there was no credible security threat.”

2. Sydney woman’s partner in coma after Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris.

The boyfriend of a Sydney woman has been shot in the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack in Paris. Maisie Dubosarsky, a 27-year-old woman from Sydney, told the Sydney Morning Herald her partner Simon Fieschi, 31 — whom she met on a working holiday in France 18 months ago, and who works at the satirical French magazine — had suffered a gunwound to his shoulder in the shooting attack.

He underwent surgery and is in an induced coma. “When they wake him up, we’ll start to know,” she said. “Last night I was so happy because he wasn’t dead. Now, realising that he might not walk again … it’s kind of terrible. I just wish it wasn’t real.”

3. More than 100 diners ‘poisoned’ by restaurant food.

More than 110 people have fallen ill after eating at a Chinese restaurant south of Brisbane, health authorities say.

Dr Kari Jarvinen from the Metro South Public Health Unit said the outbreak affected toddlers to those aged in their 80s, with many needing to be admitted to hospital for treatment.

“A number of people who have had samples taken have tested positive to salmonella,” he said. “We also do know some of the food items that we’ve tested from the restaurant have also tested positive to salmonella.”

4. Man allegedly tries to film child at a shopping centre.

A man has been charged after allegedly trying to indecently film a four-year-old girl at a Perth shopping centre.

Police said the 49-year-old man from Balga was at shopping complex in Perth’s northern suburbs on December 30 when the incident occurred.

Officers from the sex assault squad arrested the man after a search of his car and home allegedly uncovered a number of electronic storage devices. It is alleged more videos were found on his phone showing the man filming under the dresses of two girls under the age of 10.

He is facing charges including indecently recording a child and attempted indecent recording of a child. Police said analysis of the electronic and data storage devices was continuing and further charges may be laid.

The man is due to reappear in court on February 6.
