Places with names so sad they're actually a bit funny.

They’re enough to make you want to hang out permanently at Mt Joy, Happy Creek or Sweet St.

The sad place Instagram account @sadtopographies – Somewhere to go when you’re feeling low – is collated by Melbourne-based photographic artist, Damien Rudd, and is all about those places in the world with so-sad-they’re-probably-a-bit-funny names.

Collected via Googlemaps, Rudd has found Broken Heart Lane in Texas, Starvation Heights in Oregon, Grandmother’s Hole in Goa, India and End of The World in California among other terribly unfortunate place names.

Here are some more wonderfully sad places to wander through.

  1. Sigh … Disappointment Cove in New Zealand

2. We weren't trying anyway. Defeated Tennessee, US.

3. Yes? No? Uncertain, Texas, US.

4. Feeling really discouraged now ... Hopeless Pass California, US.

5. Slaughtered? Or just a bit pissed? Slaughter Beach, Delaware, US.

6. Because there's no place like ... Oh. Nowhere Else, Tasmania

7. Give me an umbrella. Now. Shades of Death Road in Great Meadows, US.
