(Open) post of the week: what's on your mind?

Welcome to the open post of the week where you can see what we’ve been up to behind-the-scenes at Mamamia and you can then talk about ANYTHING that’s on your mind. Maybe something is bothering you. Maybe you’ve had some good news. Maybe you need some advice. Or need to vent. Or want to ask the community something and tap into the infinite source of MM wisdom. Simple really. But effective.

Here’s my week for you…….

The haircut (round 2)

So I got my hair lopped off two weeks ago but – predictably – I didn’t do it properly. I kind of went halfway, just to my shoulders. But it needed to come up a few inches so I went back to my hairdresser for another chop and then decided to get some colour. I haven’t had colour for a couple of years because I couldn’t be bothered really.

But since reading Zoe Foster‘s Amazing Face book (more to come on that), I’ve been in a beauty lathered – all inspired to make changes and mix it up.

Oh look, it’s my new hair and my fake smile.

The Footwear

It’s been bloody chilly this week and that means it’s taking longer and longer to get dressed. All those layers. Here I am in the office after my Today Show slot on Monday morning where I swiftly exchanged my ‘TV shoes” for ugg boots. Because that’s how I roll…….

The visitor

The glorious author, blogger and MM columnist Kerri Sackville popped in for tea and a chat. We caught up on all the latest since her book was released AND SOLD INTO ITALY. Auguri (that means congrats in Italian don’t you know it…).

And check out Kerri’s very cool ring which she says she bought in Hobart.

The ashcloud

.

Look, I know it’s not funny if your travel plans have been screwed up by the ash cloud but since I’m not flying until next week, I can giggle about the dudes and dudettes at the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre in Darwin. Who knew there was such a thing? Reckon they’ve been very busy until these past few weeks? Gosh there would be some loooooong quiet periods if you worked there. But at the moment, THEY’RE ROCK STARS. The most in-demand people in the news. Hilarious.

Office fashion

Nicky was working blue nails.

Nicky was also wearing some new slipper boots with pom poms.

The puppies

My friend Margie owns a pet store called Dogue and she often has (ethically bred) puppies for sale. We went to her house for dinner this week and I got amongst it on the floor with these three gorgeous little buggers – you can barely see the black one because her eyes blend into her fur which blends into my pants.
I think they thought my furry vest was their mother……

The cookies

A bit of home-baking is always good when it’s raining outside. These are from the Greens cookie mix to promote the new Cars2 movie. We freestyled them a bit – added choc bits and hundreds and thousands instead of the supplied icing glaze.

The office cold

OH THE SICKNESS! We all work together around one desk at MM HQ and this means much laughter and many good times but also the rapid spread of germs.

The problem is, whereas at most workplaces when people chuck sickies, at Mamamia, people chuck ‘wellies’. So they PRETEND they are well so they can come to work (Jason and I are very strict about sending people home at the mere suggestion of a sniffle or cough). Here are Nicky and Nat with tissues over their faces pretending to wear masks. This was taken BEFORE they both caught germs from Lana and/or Rick.

I think I’m going to buy actual masks and force everyone to wear them. Wheeeee.

This is what happens when someone coughs at Mamamia HQ

Tweets of the week

You may have read about the 7yo girls who were kickboxing in public matches? This story brought about some inspired tweets from one Dr Kerryn Phelps who wrote:

The quote

“To meet adverse conditions gracefully is more than simple endurance; it is an act of aggression, a positive triumph.” – Thomas Mann

The video

I am wearing a hole in my iPod with Adele’s 21 album. Cannot stop playing it. This song in particular is just on a loop in my head. It’s so beautiful. The lyrics make me want to have a little cry. What a refreshing talent.

Anything on your mind?
