Open post: 'My dog is rocking a hoodie. Help me.'

One of our writers has an embarrassing confession.

Welcome to Open Post. If you’re new here, this is the place we can chat about our weeks. Absolutely NOTHING is off limits. I’ll go first…

To celebrate my first open post, I thought I would bring a shameful confession to the table. Something I just need to get off my chest.

This week, I crossed a line.

I did something I always promised myself I would never do. I even mocked others who did it. If my 20-year-old self saw me now, she wouldn’t even recognise me.

That’s right, this week I put a jumper on my dog.

This is Lola rocking her hoodie like a boss. She is a cavalier x puggle (pug x beagle) mutt, for those playing at home, and I am obsessed with her.

First of all, before you judge me, let me explain. I accidentally had all my lovely little fluffball’s fur chopped off just weeks before Melbourne winter arrived. She was cold. (Plus, she looks so cute in her hoodie.)

I took her to the dog groomer for her first haircut and was so worried that she was going to come out looking something like this…

…that I gave the groomer very specific instructions to chop it ALL off.

In my mind, this instruction simply meant leave no long, poofy bits that would make my puppy the subject of canine ridicule at the dog park.

In reality, this led to what is known as a “seal cut” (in case you’re not aware, seals have very short hair).

This was a very shaggy Lola before her haircut and her looking rather unimpressed with the new ‘do afterwards.

As a result of her new ‘do, she began shivering.

But, since my intervention, she has been proudly strutting her stuff in her $4 knitted hoodie straight from the bottom of the pet store bargain bin.

I tried to hide the fact that I was one of those people who dressed their dog. I made sure she was derobed when friends came over and even deleted a picture of her off Instagram after realising she was wearing it in the photo.

But, now, I am choosing to come to terms with my new status by putting it out there on the big, wide interwebs.

I DRESS MY PUPPY AS IF SHE WERE HUMAN, OK?

(I also talk to her as if she were human, feed her human food, cover her with blankets and sometimes let her sleep on my bed.)

Wow. That felt good.

Now, your turn.

What’s been going on in your week?
