Olivia Wilde: "My belly is a lot like a partially deflated pool toy.”

We didn’t see that coming.

With headlines the world over focusing on amazing and rapid post-baby body transformations, it’s refreshing to hear an a-list celebrity mum speak candidly about her body.

In an interview with Shape magazine, former House M.D. star Olivia Wilde has admitted that her body may have changed forever since welcoming her first child, son Otis, with fiancé Jason Sudeikis in April 2014.

At first glance, the 31-year-old former model’s perfectly toned abs could have fooled us. But Wilde said, “I am not in perfect shape. In fact, I’m softer than I’ve ever been, including that unfortunate semester in high school when I simultaneously discovered Krispy Kreme and pot.”

The celebrity mum even admits to some photo-shopping to help her out. “The photos of me in this magazine have been generously constructed to show my best angles and I assure you, good lighting has been warmly embraced. The truth is, I’m a mother, and I look like one," she said.

That gorgeous bump you paraded around town for some 40 weeks has only retreated slightly after the birth. Now it's a lot like a partially deflated pool toy," she continued.

And her revelations didn't end there, explaining, "After giving birth I joined the ranks of millions of new mothers when I moaned, 'Why do I still look pregnant?'"

Keeping her focus on her bub, rather than her abs, the Cowboys and Aliens star has also said, that her body naturally began to return to its pre-pregnancy state, revealing that, “breastfeeding helps in the most intense way”.

Wilde’s shockingly normal reaction is exactly the reality check we needed.

She said, “I believe in a world where mothers are not expected to shed any physical evidence of their child-bearing experience. In that same world I believe there is space for exercise to be as much a gift to your brain as it is to your body. I don’t want to waste my time striving for some subjective definition of perfection. I’d rather rebuild my strength while dancing my ass of...literally.”

As far as celebrity advice goes, this is some of the best we’ve heard.
