"84mm of rain & counting." Farmers danced in their paddocks as the rain fell across NSW on Sunday.

Pub goers at The Port Of Bourke Hotel were able to quench their thirst in more ways than one on Saturday night, as rain fell heavily in the northwest NSW town.

Leaving their beers inside, happy residents took to the streets to dance, pose and uh, body slide in the rain.

And they’re not the only ones rejoicing: Farmers throughout northwestern NSW are celebrating a morale boost after rain fell across drought-affected areas.

Now THIS is an epic celebration. Post continues below video.

The Bureau of Meteorology recorded almost 50mm in the 24 hours to 9am on Sunday near Brewarrina in NSW’s northwest, The Australian reported. This was the first significant rain seen in the area since April and totals half the area’s yearly rainfall to date.

The town of Bourke received some of the heaviest falls, with 90mm.

The rain is expected to continue until Tuesday afternoon.

While must more is needed to break the drought, the rain has delivered much-needed relief to struggling farmers who shared their celebrations on social media.
