When we first met Nicki Minaj she looked very much like someone who had fallen from space. She wore bubblegum bright everything, and once walked the red carpet wearing a dress made of broken glass and discarded toys.
Now, we’re not saying that Nicki’s new long, curly black hair is natural (it’s not), but the rapid-fire rapper has certainly stripped her look back a lot since then.
At the BET Awards Nicki still looked extraordinary in many ways – those hips! those great big eyes! – but she also looked pretty classy. Having hair that hangs in curls down to your waist certainly retains an element of fantasy, but the look also softens her.
Serena Williams, Beyonce and Lupita Nyong'o were also honoured at the awards.
