Oscar Pistorius returns to social media with a series of bizarre tweets.

In what some are labeling a “bizarre social media interaction” accused murderer and Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has broken his twitter silence and posted a series of religious and philosophical references on the site.

It is the first time the “Blade Runner” has sent a tweet since the first anniversary of Reeva Steenkamp’s death on February 14.

The four posts come just days after the defence rested in the case against Pistorius. The athlete is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, who he shot and killed in the early morning hours of Valentine’s Day last year. While Pistorius claims he fired his pistol through a locked bathroom door, saying he thought there was an intruder on the other side. The prosecution however allege Pistorius shot out of anger, knowing it was Steenkamp, not an intruder, hiding inside the bathroom.

The four tweets began on Sunday with a quote from the bible – Psalm 34:18. He later on deleted this tweet.

He then tweeted a collage shortly after with images of him surrounded by children and the words “You have the ability to make a difference in someones life. Sometimes it’s the simple things you say or do that can make someone feel better or inspire them.”

His next was a quote from Austrian psychiatrist and Holocaust survivor, Viktor Frankl.

He posted an image of a passage from Frankl’s book, “Man’s Search for Meaning” – pictured with a man’s finger on the page – stating that love is the highest human goal and the source of man’s salvation.

Frankl is renowned for his belief that even in times of profound misery, life has meaning.

His fourth tweet was another religious reference a prayer – posted yesterday.“Lord, today I ask that that you bathe those who live in pain in the river of your healing. Amen.”

His statements caused swift reaction on twitter with both supporters and those who believe him guilty quick to respond.

“I don’t give a damn what #OscarPistorius is tweeting. Because, you know, #ReevaSteenkamp cannot tweet anything anymore. Ever,” wrote one.

The posts are the first since he wrote of his grief on losing Reeva Steenkamp on the first anniversary of her death. Pistorius wrote: “No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved – and continues to love Reeva. “The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life.”

The court in his trial will reconvene on August 7th when it’s expected both sides will make their closing arguments and the judge – there are no juries in South Africa – will deliver a verdict sometime after.
