Jimmy Barnes has an important message for racists.

Australian music icon Jimmy Barnes has hit back at the Reclaim Australia group for using his songs as an anthem for their racist movement.

Songs such as Working Class Man and Khe Sanh by Barnes’ band Cold Chisel have been adopted by the anti-Islamic group and played at rallies.

Over the weekend, Reclaim Australia and associated groups staged rallies across Sydney and Melbourne in protest of multiculturalism, halal food and the burka. Barnes’s music was blasted from their speakers.

Barnes, 59, took to Facebook to set the records straight about his allegiances.

“It has come to my attention that certain groups of people have been using my voice, my songs as their anthems at rallies,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

“I only want to say the Australia I belong to and love is a tolerant Australia. A place that is open and giving. It is a place that embraces all sorts of different people, in fact it is made stronger by the diversity of its people. If you look at my family you can see we are a multicultural family. Australia needs to stand up for Love and Tolerance in these modern times.

Barnes’ wife, Jane Mahoney, was born in Thailand, while Barnes was born in Scotland. The pair have been married for 34 years and have four children.

His message follows tense rallies held by anti-Islam protesters over the weekend.
