This is not the kind of news we’d like to be bringing you just a week before Christmas.
A six-year-old boy has lost his life after being hit by a car outside a school in the Sydney suburb of Carlingford.
The boy, who was on holiday from Malaysia, was walking with his mother and two cousins (aged four and five) to the gates of Carlingford Public School just after 9am this morning.
It was previously reported that it was a five-year-old girl who had died.
According to news reports, the boy’s mother and cousins were taken to Westmead Hospital.
The 46-year-old woman who was driving the car has also been taken to hospital, suffering shock. News Ltd are reporting that the mother was a parent at the school, who had just completed the school run in her SUV.
It’s believed the group were hit by a car at around 9:30am as they were crossing the Rickard Street outside a child care centre, which neighbours the school.

The lovely ladies in the front office at my daughters' school must roll their eyes when I come in to report yet another senseless act of disregard for the road rules around our school. But I can't let it go.
There are parents who drop their children off ON THE CROSSING - you know, the one children are supposed to be SAFELY crossing to school on. There are taxis who drop off the parent and child ON THE CROSSING then have the hide to stick it to me when I tell them they're doing the wrong thing. There are the parents who double park and let their kids run between other parked cars to get into their car while it's still running. And these are just the parents, not the miscellaneous traffic up and down the street.
I'm not suggesting this driver was doing anything illegal, it could have been a true accident, I don't know the details. All I know is it is shocking and traumatic for everyone involved and I am so sad to hear this news.
