When the first season of Sex Education was released last January, it was described by Netflix as a "contemporary British love letter to American high school TV shows".

The comedy-drama series, which is cringe-worthy in a good way, takes a unique look at the universally awkward coming-of-age experiences all teenagers go through at some stage during their high school years.

In case you're not familiar, the first season of the show focused on the story of Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), who is a teenage boy being raised by his sex-therapist mother Jean (Gillian Anderson).

Despite his mother's profession, Otis is an inexperienced, quiet and socially awkward high school student. But after dealing with countless open conversations with his mother on the subject, Otis soon becomes a reluctant expert on the topic.

Soon enough, Otis and his best friend Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and bad-girl Maeve (Emma Mackey) team up to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their fellow students’ weird and wonderful problems.

Now, the popular series is coming back for a second season, including eight new episodes, on January 17.

Grace and Frankie (Season 6)

Grace and Frankie is returning for a sixth season on January 15.

The hit show, starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, follows two longtime rivals who became unlikely friends after they discovered that their husbands had been in a secret relationship for years.

The comedy series, which was made by the same creator as Friends, has been described as "unlike any other show on TV". Not only is the show laugh-out-loud funny, but it's also incredibly relatable.

If you haven't watched the show yet, the time to catch up is now.

Spinning Out

Spinning Out is one of the first new releases coming to Netflix in 2020.

The TV series, which is one of the most hotly anticipated shows of the month, follows an up-and-coming figure skater who seizes an opportunity to continue as a pair skater after a fall nearly ends her career as a single skater.

Here's the official description, according to Netflix: "Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with a talented bad-boy partner, Justin Davis, she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. She splits her time between the ice rink, working as a waitress, and living with her family [in] the nearby working-class town of Hawkley, Idaho. Kat's mother, Carol is a former figure skater who has raised Kat, and younger sister, Serena, on her own. Fueled by a desire to prove that she can cut it as a pair skater wrong, Kat keeps her eye on the prize — facing daunting odds to realize her Olympic dream."

The series starring Kaya Scodelario and Evan Roderick is premiering on January 1.

I AM A KILLER (Season 2)

A new true crime documentary is coming to Netflix this January.

The series, which first premiered on the streaming service in August 2018, features interviews with inmates currently serving time on death row in the US.

The inmates interviewed in the series are often individuals convicted of capital murder, who have been sentenced to death.

In each episode, the convicted murderer is interviewed as well as the victim or their family, prosecution and defence lawyers and detectives who worked on the cases.

The second season of I AM A KILLER is premiering on Netflix on January 31.
