1. Mother jailed for plotting the rape of her 7-year-old daughter.

A UK mum has been sentenced to nine years jail for plotting to let a paedophile, who she met on an online dating site, rape her seven-year-old daughter.

The woman, who has not been named for legal reasons, and the would-be rapist Stuart Bailey were found guilty of conspiracy to rape a child under 13 in a UK court, The Mirror reports.

The attack was prevented when the woman’s partner found texts between the pair and reported her. These texts, admitted into the courtroom as evidence, show how the depraved plot unfolded.

Among Bailey’s texts were: “Let me do as I please”, “Does she have a short skirt?”, and “What is she wearing? Is she in school uniform?” as well as requests for the mother to “tart up” her young daughter.

The mother had sent a naked photo of her daughter and asked what she would get in return for the sex attack, to which the 54-year-old replied with sums of $330 to $500 (£200 to £300).

The lawyer defending the woman claimed she had been blackmailed by the man from Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd.

Sentencing the pair, Judge Eleri Rees said Stuart had “bullied and manipulated” the mother into drugging her child for the purpose of the assault.

“You quickly identified that she was vulnerable.”

Stuart was sentenced to 13 years jail.

2. Sydney masseur who intimately touched woman claims she consented.

A Sydney masseur claims the client he intimately touched during a massage consented to his touching by saying ‘mmm’ when he asked her if she was okay.

Anthony Theodosiou, 31, faced court on Monday accused of five counts of indecent assault and three counts of sexual assault. All charges come from a massage of a woman in Sutherland on August 7 in 2015, AAP reports.

The court heard Theodosiou regularly asked if the woman was comfortable with what he was doing and she replied ‘mmm’.

However, prosecutor Linda McSpedden argued this did not signal consent.

“She was frozen and scared and did not make any objection and will give you reasons for that,” Ms McSpedden told the jury.

The court also heard that when Mr Theodosiou asked the woman if she wanted him to stop she replied: ‘You better stop’, and he did.

The trial continues.

3. Donald Trump ends the Trans-Pacific Partnership deal.

Donald Trump’s axeing of a “gold-standard” trade deal is a significant blow to Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

The US president followed through on his election promise on Monday to kill off the Trans-Pacific Partnership between America, Australia, New Zealand and nine other Pacific nations, signing an executive order to withdraw the United States from the deal.

“Everyone knows what that means, right?” Trump said.

“We’ve been talking about this for a long time. It’s a great thing for the American worker.”

Negotiations for the free trade deal began more than eight years ago. It’s purpose was to curb China’s dominance in the Asia-Pacific region, AAP reports.

4. Sydney is named the second most expensive city in the world.

It seems Sydney-siders aren’t the only ones who think breaking into the city’s housing market is difficult, with Sydney recently ranked the second most expensive city in the world.

Only Hong Kong ranked above the NSW capital in terms of housing unaffordability, with four other Australian cities also ranking in the top 20 in the results of the Demographia study.

Melbourne came in sixth place in the study, while Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth were all ranked in the top 20 most expensive.

The ranking may come as no surprise to Sydney home-owners – the city held it’s rank steady from last year’s survey.

5. Accused serial rapist will face court in Queensland.

A man accused of raping four women in Queensland’s south-east is set to face a Gold Coast court this morning.

Police allege the 50-year-old man disguised himself when he broke into homes across the Gold Coast and Brisbane and raped four women between 2008 and 2016, Seven News reports.

His arrest on Saturday at Gold Coast University Hospital comes as part of a police investigation into several sexual assaults in the Gold Coast, Logan and south Brisbane areas since 2005.

It’s also alleged the man sexually assaulted a child two months ago, which led to the DNA breakthrough.

The accused made a brief appearance in court on 14 charges, including four counts of rape and two of sexual assault.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and further charges could be laid – urging potential victims to come forward.

6. Puppies rescued from Italian hotel gives hope for survivors.

Three puppies found alive in the rubble of an Italian hotel struck by a deadly avalanche has given rescuers hope for the survival of the 23 people still buried in the snow.

It’s been almost a week since Hotel Rigopiano, located on an Italian mountain, was hit by an avalanche caused by an earthquake on January 18, trapping staff and guests under up to 60,000 tonnes of snow.

Nine people have been rescued so far, while six people have died, AAP reports.

More than a day has passed since anyone has been recovered alive and conditions are reportedly deteriorating, but emergency crews are holding out hope that survivors found air pockets under the tonnes of snow and rubble.
