Mum buys toddler $6.5m apartment

A mother in China has bought her toddler a multi-million-dollar Manhattan apartment as a gift.

One must ask – did China run out of dolls and tea sets?

In a move that lifts the bar for all of us (I am now rethinking the Wii U I have on layby for my son’s upcoming birthday) the wealthy mother was touring New York with an agent from Sotheby’s International Realty when she made the request.

“She said that it had to do with her daughter, who was either going to Columbia or NYU, maybe Harvard, and so she needed to be in the centre of the city, and that was the reason why she was picking this one particular apartment,” the agent said.

The building is known as One57 and the building’s developer said that a handful of buyers were “significant Forbes billionaires”. The building will be finished next year and this lucky little girl will be in very wealthy company, with the building to be the future home of several international billionaires. According to the New York Times, the billionaire buyers include at least two others from China, a Canadian, a Nigerian and a Briton, as well as wealthy Americans.
