Bare butts are the new 'side vag' if the MTV Europe Music Awards are anything to go by.

It was only a few weeks ago that ‘side vag’ burst onto the scene, quickly earning the title of Peak Skin-Baring trend.

We thought it couldn’t possibly be topped. How very wrong we were.

The MTV European Music Awards were held in the Netherlands yesterday and there was one trend that dominated the evening.

The bare butt.

Alright, it wasn't exactly bare bare - but it was close enough for a red carpet event.

See-through dresses and jumpsuits emblazoned with crystals and lace took over the red carpet leaving very little to the imagination (except perhaps to wonder the styling tricks involved.)

From top models to reality TV stars, it was unanimous - no ifs, lots of butts.

While models like Jourdan Dunn and Winnie Harlow both wore detailed 'naked' gowns with with strategic lace, jewels and beaded panelling, attendees like Geordie Shore's Chloe Ferry and Ex On The Beach's Charlotte Dawson took it one step further.

Forget the nude coloured slip traditionalists would recommend - even the flashing-preventative-measures are barely there.

But if you thought it couldn't get any more, erm, daring - prepare yourselves.

Ferry's Spanish Geordie Shore counterpart Elettra Lamborghini brought the 'bare' to the 'bare butt' trend.

Look, if you're going to do it, the MTV EMAs are probably the safest place.

Given this year we've seen the naked dress skyrocket in popularity, it's no surprise that to keep its shock value, it continues to be cranked up a notch or two. (Post continues after gallery.)

As for what's next? We don't think we even want to know.
