What you need to know about Michelle Obama.

Michelle Obama

She hardly needs an introduction, but let’s give it a try: Michelle Obama (born on January 17, 1964) is the strong, intelligent, accomplished and stylish wife of Barack Obama, the current President of the United States. She’s the first African-American First Lady and probably the most popular since Jackie Kennedy.

While it’s in her job description to smile all the time, on Michelle it looks genuine and natural. She’s just one of those friendly, awesome women you want to know.

On a purely superficial level, we love her for her knockout looks, incredible smile and impeccable style, making her a modern fashion icon.

One of the best things about the Michelle Obama is her fantastic sense of humour, shared by her husband. Their humour is edgy and self-deprecating (a brave, modern and incredibly refreshing trait the previous conservative leaders did not possess). Michelle is a majorly cool character and clearly sees the importance in not taking life too seriously. It’s seriously adorable watching her laugh along with her husband’s gags, which are often at their own expense.

Watch this video of Obama cracking some hilarious jokes about himself and Michelle at the 2013 White House Correspondent’s Dinner.

Michelle grew up in Chicago. She went to Princeton University and Harvard Law school before returning to Chicago to work at the Sidley Austin law firm where she met her future husband. She also worked as part of the staff of Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley, and for the University of Chicago Medical Center.

During 2007 and 2008, she was incredibly active in her husband’s presidential campaign. She delivered a keynote address at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and also spoke at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

She has two gorgeous daughters, Malia and Sasha. As the wife of a Senator, and later the First Lady, she has become a fashion icon and role model for women, and an advocate for poverty awareness, nutrition, and healthy eating.
