We ask eight of Australia's funniest women: "What would you do if the internet died?"

You wake up, rub your tired eyes and reach over to embrace your soul mate, a strapping and thoughtful iPhone.

You put in your passcode. You click on ‘Facebook‘. You’re curious as to what critical world events have taken place overnight. Or perhaps a racist acquaintance from high school posted another inappropriate status.

But no. Facebook won’t load. Because the Internet has…disappeared. Maybe Kim Kardashian finally managed to ‘break’ it.

This is the question we put to eight funny chicks; “If the internet was to fail tomorrow, what would your end of the world message be?”

The Melbourne Comedy Festival is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, celebrating its 30th year, running right now until 17th April. If you feel like a good ol’ laugh over the next few weeks, book some tickets and go check out these funny chicks.

Gillian Cosgriff

Award winning comedian Gillian Cosgriff is performing at The Butterfly Club as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of April at 8:30pm. It’s called “To the Moon and Back” and it’s all about the future and how goddam scary it looks. You can buy tickets here.

Tegan Higginbotham

Tegan is performing at her tenth Melbourne Comedy Festival, and you can see her show at the Greek Centre, Aphrodite’s Room at 7:15pm on the 1st and 2nd of April, or 6:15pm on the 3rd of April. Her segment “The City of Love” is all about the difficulties we face as adults when we actively decide to pursue our dreams. You can buy tickets here.

Kate Dehnert

Kate Dehnert’s performance at the Melbourne Comedy Festival has garnered incredible reviews, with the Herald Sun awarding it 4 and a half stars. “Shabamalam” is bizarre, daring, smart, but most importantly very, very funny. You can catch her at the ACMI Games Room at 8:15pm from the 1st to the 17th of April, except on Sundays when the show runs at 7:15pm. You can buy tickets here.

Sarah Gaul

Sarah Gaul is a musical comedian, comedy writer and improvisor. She has won a tonne of awards for being so slap-on-the-knee funny. You can see Sarah at The Butterfly Club as part of the Melbourne Comedy Festival,on the 5th through to the 10th of April. Her show “Slumberland” starts at 5:30pm. You can buy tickets here.

Michelle Brasier

Michelle invites you to the “heart-warming intergalactic journey of a tortoise working in retail with big dreams and an even bigger voice.” You can see said tortoise at the Melbourne Townhall Lunch Room every night until the 17th of April. Her show starts at 6pm, except for Sundays when it begins at 5pm. You can buy tickets here.

Laura Davis

The Herald Sun has claimed that “it’s impossible not to laugh” during Laura Davis’ performance. She won Best Comedy for the Melbourne Fringe Festival last year, and is a renowned cult-favourite in the comedy world. You can catch Laura’s show “Marco. Polo.” at the ACMI Games Room from today until the 17th of April at 9:30pm on all nights except Sundays, where the show starts at 8pm. You can buy tickets here.

Hayley Butcher and Kat Mroz – Dash and D’Bree

Hayley and Kat are a duo who appeared on Australia’s Got Talent, auditioning with their STI-avoidance education track “Clap Rap”. Since, they have created a web series about their glorious lives in retail, following their five minutes of fame. With a mix of original songs and appropriations from pop hits, these funny chicks always have their audience in stitches. You can check them out here.

Lucy Gransbury
