19 photos that prove Mauritius should be your next island holiday destination.

2000 kilometres off the southeast coast of Africa is the island of Mauritius – a relatively tiny tropical paradise hugged by the glistening turquoise waters of the Indian ocean.

The island’s 27 micro-climates offer a range of landscapes from coral reefs, rainforests, waterfalls, a dormant volcano and more secluded beaches than you can throw a lounge chair on.

For Aussies, Mauritius is the holiday destination that’s unjustly unknown to a lot of us, despite direct eight hour flights from Perth. From holidayers looking for an immense dose of relaxation to those who don’t want to sit still, you can rest (or hike, walk, scuba-dive etc.) easy. When Club Med invited Mamamia to experience the island and their all-inclusive ourselves (with a gun held to our heads, we swear) we were told kite-surfing was the water sport du jour… however snorkelling, snacking on the local street food, and ample beach time are all perfectly reasonable ways to spend one’s precious vacation hours. Trust us.

So without further ado, here are 19 photos which have us dreaming of a holiday in Mauritius.

1. The beaches. Period.
