Matty J should be the next Bachelor, because his real story never made it to TV.

It’s no secret that last year’s runner-up on The Bachelorette has a red hot chance of being this year’s The Bachelor.

Marketing manager Matty J has already proven that he is the whole package. He’s sweet, charming and able to communicate those traits on cue.

Listen to The Binge hosts Laura Brodnik and Tiffany Dunk explain why Matty J should be the next Bachelor on The Binge.

Even the untrained eye can see Matty J seems to be prepping for a very public life.

The 29-year-old’s Instagram boasts the kind of clinical perfection you only really achieve with the firm hand of a public relations specialist.

If you’re unfamiliar, the photos go a bit like this: perfect candid shot, perfect candid shot with child, perfect candid shot, child, out with friends but not drunk, family photo, modelling shot.

It may be a surefire recipe for success but not all our television experts agree.

Tiffany believed the former contestant lacked some of the key traits that belong to a successful candidate.

“I do not think he should be The Bachelor. I don’t think he has the gravitas. I think they need to go back to the drawing board and find us someone new,” she said.

“The whole reason why we fell in love with Matty J and with Richie was because they were a bit goofy… they kind of struggled and stumbled a bit.”

Tiffany used previous host and suitor Sam Wood as an example of a better candidate.

“He came into it, knowing what he wanted, really secure,” she said.

Laura disagreed and said it was this kind of relatable personality that will keep viewers on his side.

"There was so much upset when Georgia chose Lee over Matty J," she said.

"He's got that big built in back story and that's why Sam Frost has been so popular.

"We didn't get to see the real Matty J on The Bachelorette, he was the dark horse who swooped in at the end. He still has a story to tell."
