He killed his own mother. Now he is facing child porn charges.

An Adelaide man jailed for killing his mother could face more time behind bars after confessing to downloading child pornography material.

Wei Li pleaded guilty to having collated explicit images of children under the age of 14, and is due to face District Court today, reports The Advertiser.

The 23-year-old is currently serving a nine year sentence for the manslaughter of his mother, Emma Mae Tien, whom he killed in her Burnside home on March 18, 2011.

Li fled to China four days later, where he lived and worked illegally under a false identity for several years. He was ultimately tracked down by Chinese authorities and deported back to Australia in handcuffs on July 4, 2014.

Li initially faced a murder charge, but was acquitted after a Supreme Court jury heard evidence of his fraught relationship with his mother, along with claims that he acted in self-defence.

The law student said Tien had “come at him” in a rage because he was practising martial arts instead of the piano.

Li was charged with three aggravated counts of child pornography in 2015, but the case was adjourned until the completion of his murder trial, reports The Advertiser.

Police claim he downloaded the material, which includes photographs and explicit cartoons, over a four month period from November 16, 2010 to March 20, 2011 - the latter being two days after he killed his mother.

His identity remained suppressed in relation to these charges, as statutory provisions ban the media from naming any person charged with sexually-based offending.
