The gruelling reality of Mama June's weight loss surgery.

Reality star and stage mum June “Mama June” Shannon has been making headlines due to her recent weight loss.

Now, we’ve been given a glimpse into the reality of her physical transformation — and it was far from easy.

The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo matriarch is the subject of WeTV’s reality series Mama June: From Not to Hot. Insulting title aside, the program didn’t hold back in its coverage of the 37-year-old’s struggles as she underwent multiple surgeries to drop six dress sizes and 70kg.

As she awoke from each procedure, cameras were there to capture every moment of pain and raw emotion.

While on the show, June admitted the surgeries "really took a toll" - both physical and emotional — and sometimes had her doubting if she'd made the right decision.

"I thought that surgery would make me feel better, but it hasn't," she said during one episode.

"My body looks like Frankenstein and I hate that I did this."

However, the mum-of-four was happy with the final results, admitting that her motivation in part was to attend her ex-boyfriend Sugar Bear's wedding and show him what he was missing.
