"So the wedding is over...Now what?"

As someone who is currently engaged, approximately 90 per cent of my life is about weddings at the moment.

I have studied vintage-rustic-shabby-chic themes for months now. I can talk about everything from signature cocktails to seating arrangements and bunting to bridal gowns.

But what I can’t tell you is what it’s like after you’re married.

What is that first day post-wedding actually like?

Is there such thing as a wedding hangover? You know, when you wake up and go “wow, that was amazing” then you pause and think “wait – I spent HOW much last night?”

Do you spend the day passed out in utter exhaustion? Or are you so blissfully loved-up that you feel like giddy teenagers again?

Just as an FYI, this post is sponsored by Toyota Rav 4. But all opinions expressed by the author are 100 per cent authentic and written in their own words.

I recently asked some friends and some women in the Mamamia office in an effort to prepare myself for any post-wedding blues I may suffer – and judging by their answers, I’m now looking forward to the calm immediately following the wedding storm.

Here’s how some of the Mamamia team spent the day after their weddings:

“We had to wake up early in the hotel room (we barely had a sleep in) so we could go grab all the decorations from the wedding venue that we didn’t want chucked. We then had to make it back to my parents’ place who were having the “day after lunch” with all the family that came from overseas for the wedding. It was a nice day. The best bit is we were on a plane three days later on our honeymoon. Best decision ever.” – Avi

“The day after our wedding we just checked out of our hotel and went to see family. The day after was kinda boring but we were happy. We left for the honeymoon a few days later.” – Jacqui

“We went on our honeymoon. I was 21 and had never flown on a plane before. The woman at check-in heard us talking about our wedding and upgraded us to first class and gave us a bottle of champagne. I have flown dozens of times since and have never been upgraded again.” – Helen

“We didn’t have a honeymoon so we went home, slept in and then went for breakfast the next day. Strangely, breakfast meals have become our ‘thing’ and whenever we are having a special lunch during the week we tend to choose places that serve all-day breakfast. But we only do that when we are together.” – Jo

“Our family had flown in from all over the world to be there, so we invited them to our hotel (we had the penthouse, ooh la la) for a giant brunch. It was really lovely.” – Jamila

“I’d love to say we spent the day gazing adoringly into each other’s eyes and being romantic, but the truth is we pretty much slept the whole day. Weddings are exhausting.” – Scarlett

“To be honest, I did feel a little bit flat the day after. I’d been dreaming about my big day since I was a little girl, and I had spent so much time and effort planning every last detail. The day was so perfect and exciting and the next day I did feel a little bit let-down.” – Harriet

“This is going to sound lame, but the day after our wedding was the most romantic day ever. We had the big family-and-friends wedding but we then snuck off to a hotel room alone. We had the whole day to ourselves and we were just so happy and in love. It felt great to be alone with my new husband.” – Katie
