The first photos from Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth's wedding.

While we were all frantically buying last-minute gifts and digging into Christmas ham, Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were getting married.

The musician and actor tied the knot in what was apparently a small, casual ceremony on December 23 in the US (Christmas Eve, here) six years after first becoming engaged.

Rumours the pair had finally gotten married began to swirl when Miley’s friend Conrad Carr shared a photo of her and Liam cutting a cake – she in a white dress, he in a black suit – on his Instagram Stories. In another image, the words ‘Mr and Mrs’ can be seen spelled out in balloons.

We mean, it was pretty undeniable evidence.

But it was only on Thursday morning that the singer confirmed the news herself, by posting black and white photos of herself and her new husband kissing and dancing, the last of which she captioned “10 years later…”

The 26-year-old was referring to the pair’s first meeting on the set of the 2010 romance The Last Song.

People reports the couple’s wedding reception was held at their home in Franklin, Tennessee.

Miley wore an ivory, off-the-shoulder gown, while 28-year-old Liam wore a classic black suit and white shirt combo made less-so with white sneakers.

The couple became engaged in 2012, but confirmed they had split in September 2013.

However, in 2015 they rekindled their romance and Miley was soon spotted wearing her engagement ring again.

In a 2016 interview with GQ Australia, Liam explained why they broke up and confirmed they were back together.

“Of course it was hard, man. But at the time we were going in different directions and it’s just what needed to happen.

“We were both super young and it was a good decision at the time – we both needed that.”

In November the couple lost their home in Malibu in the California bushfires, with Liam posting a poignant photo of a ‘LOVE’ sign among the burnt rubble.

In a happy birthday message to his fiancee late last month, the Hunger Games actor described Miley as his “sweet girl”.

“You’re more precious than ever. So thankful to have you in my life,” he wrote.

Congratulations to the happy couple.
