Kendall Jenner has a new tattoo... on the inside of her lip.

Kendall Jenner gave Paris Fashion Week a miss last week – and got a new tattoo instead.

Leaving older sister Kim to fly the Kardashian flag overseas, the New York Post reports the 20-year-old model visited her favourite NYC tattoo artist Jonathon Valena, aka ‘Jonboy’.

And the tattoo she chose? It’s unusual, to say the least.

Invisible until her bottom lip is exposed, Jenner got the word ‘meow’ tattooed on the inside of her lip.

The go-to tattoo artist for fellow models Gigi Hadid and Hailey Baldwin, Valena is also responsible for Jenner’s very first tattoo last year – a tiny white dot on the middle of her finger.

“To her, it represents the little things that matter. She is a model, so she was very mindful of what she was getting,” he told the New York Post last year.

Clearly a fan of hidden or minimalist ink, she also has a matching small broken heart with best friend Hailey Baldwin tattooed on her finger. (Post continues after gallery.)

However according to Allure, the picture posted by Valena could actually be a throwback snap to earlier this year.

The publication reports that Jenner revealed her secret ‘meow’ ink to photographer Patrick Demarchelier during her September cover shoot.

According to the model’s rep, the tattoo has faded since the shoot as lip tattoos are prone to do, so Jenner could also have visited Valena over the weekend for a refresh.

Less permanent than other tattoos, inner lip tattoos typically last anywhere from one to five years, depending on the person.

This is largely because of the high moisture content and other acid and chemicals found in the mouth, which means it fades over time.

Miley Cyrus and singer Ke$ha have been also fans of the inner lip tattoo.

In 2014, Cyrus shared her sad cat emoji ink on Instagram, while Ke$ha opted for the phrase "Suck it".

A good option for those who aren't quite ready to commit to a tattoo for life, you can bet the Kardashian effect will mean it's highly likely we'll be seeing plenty more.
